What shipping methods do you offer for kit orders?2018-01-08T19:18:32+00:00

We offer essentially six different kit shipping/collection options but are always happy to try and fit in with your requirements if they differ from our standard options.

The six options are:

  1. Self Collection
  2. Local Delivery
  3. Tilt Tray
  4. Skid Pallet Direct
  5. Skid Pallet to Depot/Tilt Tray
  6. Shipping Container

1. Self Collection

We can organise your kit parts to be ready for collection on a specified date.  Typically customers will collect their kits using their own trailer or truck.  We will also with loading and the customer will supply all of their own tie down straps.

We also offer the option of fitting delivery cast wheels to your body/chassis unit or alternatively we can assemble your kit as a rolling and steering vehicle to allow for easier loading and unloading.

The associated kit parts can be packed into the chassis and we can shrink wrap seal the cabin area.

Please note that depending on your kit level ordered that their can be a very large number of parts to collect and even for a typical ute it can be a full load if you have ordered Starter, Roller and Finishing Kits plus options.

2.  Local Delivery

Absolute Pace can provide local delivery of kits and parts to customers using our own vehicles and trailers.

This is an additional service and we will need to charge for our time and costs involved but can be a good option for customers who are not able to collect the kit and parts themselves.

3. Tilt Tray

Tilt tray transport is a very economical way especially for local customers to transport their body and chassis unit to where it will be built.  We can optionally pack parts into the  cabin area of the chassis and shrink wrap seal this section to protect from weather, wind, etc.

To allow for loading and unloading from the tilt tray the  fitting delivery cast wheels to your body/chassis unit, assembling your kit as a rolling and steering vehicle or using a timber pallet/skid is normally required.

Please note that depending on your kit level ordered that their can be a very large number of parts that may require you to organise separate transport of these parts in your own vehicle, etc.

4. Skid Pallet Direct

For bulk kit and parts shipments, the skid pallet direct option is usually the most cost effective.  The body/chassis unit is strapped and secured onto a timber pallet skid and optionally we can pack the body/chassis with your ordered kit parts and then shrink wrap in heavy duty material to seal and protect.  Depending on the parts you have ordered we may need to pack some of the larger/bulkier items separately onto the skid.

The shipment is transported on tautliner style enclosed flat tray trucks with full tracking.

Please note that the receiving address must have suitable truck access and the availability of a suitable fork lift for unloading of the pallet skid.

5. Skid Pallet to Depot/Tilt Tray

As per the above shipping method, but the shipment is not sent direct to the receiving address, but to the nearest freight depot.  This allows the shipment to be home delivered as a tilt tray can load and unload by sliding the skid on and off the tray.

Full tracking of the shipment is available until it reaches the destination freight depot.

This is our most used shipping method for interstate customers.

6.  Shipping Container

Shipping your kit parts in a shipping container is the most secure form of transport.  You have the choice of using our provider or using your own provider.  We can either use a shipping container provided by yourself or one provided by the shipping provider.

A shipping container also provides the ability to transport multiple kits or bulk parts.

We can handle both 20′ and 40′ container sizes.

What is involved in Street Registering my finished vehicle?2018-01-08T13:19:36+00:00

Depending on the state you live in you either have a choice of club registration or full registration.

Club Registration for kit cars is available in states such as Victoria and has many advantages over full registration, e.g. relaxation of emissions requirements, etc.

For full street registration in Australia the owner must complete the vehicle in accordance with Individual Constructed Vehicle (ICV) legislation.

The ICV process is controlled by the individual states.  The process may be similar between some states, but there can be significant differences in the requirements or processes as well.  The first step is to find an authorised engineer in your state with whom you can work during the build.  It is recommended that you construct the vehicle to the requirements of your particular state and your engineer can guide you on this.  We are happy to work with the owner and the engineer to assist with registration.  Please contact us for an up-to-date list of recommended engineers.

We have information and documentation packs especially designed for engineers to assist them with the registration compliance process.

We also provide a full engineering specification list templates that assist in documenting the exact specification of your finished vehicle to help with the engineering process.

We recommend connecting with a local approved engineer to confirm requirements and costs before purchasing a kit from us.

Our build manuals contain more comprehensive information in regards to these process and requirements.

What shipping methods do you offer for parts orders?2018-01-08T19:17:28+00:00

Small and Medium Parts Shipments

For small or medium sized parts shipments our preferred shipping option is via Courier.  By request the courier can leave your shipment in a safe place if you are not at home at the time of delivery.

As an alternative for small and medium sized parts shipments we can offer Australia Post either standard or express.  For some regional areas we will need to use Australia Post due to limitations of the coverage areas of our preferred courier.  Please keep in mind that Australia Post shipments do require one of our staff to personally visit an Australia Post shop which does need to be scheduled when resources allow.

Large Parts Shipments (via freight)

Large shipments are sent via our bulk freight provider and are pallet based.  You will typically require these shipments to be sent to a business address with fork lift access.  But these shipments can be sent to the freight providers nearest depot to you and then collected in person.

Large Parts Shipments (via delivery)

Large parts shipments can also be locally delivered by Absolute Pace using our own vehicles and trailers.

What is the cost of street registering my finished vehicle?2018-01-08T12:59:34+00:00

The total cost of street registration varies from state to state but can be estimated for budgeting of your build.

You will want to obtain costs for the following main aspects:

  • Engineering
  • Registration Fees
  • Registration Stamp Duty
  • Insurance

Your finished vehicle is not subject to Luxury Car Tax (LCT) even if you finished build cost is above the LCT threshold.

Will I scrape when entering my steep driveway or with speed bumps?2018-01-08T14:22:40+00:00

Our finished vehicles enjoy significantly more ground clearance than typical hand built vehicles of the same genre.

While maintaining a nice looking low stance we still typically have more than 100mm of ground clearance between the chassis and body work and the road surface.  Fitting full diameter tyres creates additional ground clearance and entry angle clearance while further improving the stance of the finished vehicle.

With this amount of ground clearance and shape and position of the front body work it means that most steep driveways are not an issue clearance wise.  Typically the front outer lower edge of bodywork is what typically scraps as you enter and leave steep driveways and as the body shape curves upwards at the front outer edges and significantly reduces this issue.

In addition to these features our vehicle is fully compatible with hydraulic quick lift systems that allow you to lift the suspension and body/chassis 50mm+ further off the ground while traversing steep driveways or speed bumps.

Is insurance difficult and/or expensive?2018-01-08T13:17:22+00:00

We would recommend contacting a specialist insurer for these types of vehicles such as Shannons or Lumley Special Vehicles.

We typically find the insurance costs are very reasonable and are much cheaper compared to production exotic or classic vehicles.

You will also find that these specialty insurers will offer a cheaper level of cover for while your vehicle is being built (not street driven) such as Laid Up Storage Cover.

Our build manuals contain more comprehensive information in regards to insurance.

How safe is the completed vehicle?2018-01-08T19:10:08+00:00

PACE 427/FIA/Alumina body and chassis with all panels fitted weighs approximately 230kg.

PACE GT body and chassis (only) with all panels fitted weighs approximately 250kg.

What are emissions requirements for engine fitment?2018-01-08T20:49:40+00:00

You are required to meet the specified emissions levels for ICV registration in Australia.

The emissions level you are required to meet is specified by ADR 37/01.  The ADR 37/01 standard is based off USA’s FTP-83 emissions standard.  But the ADR 37/01 is actually less stringent than the FTP-83 standard and the ADR standard allows for higher levels.

The same emissions level requirement applies in all states in Australia.

The way the emissions level is verified varies by state to state.

For example in QLD there is no emissions testing facilities so you are required to fit an engine that is known to comply with the required emissions level.  If the engine is modified a certificate of emissions is required for all modifications performed.  E.g. if aftermarket heads, cam and/or intake is fitted these will require an emissions compliance certificate from the manufacture of these components.  As the required ADR 37/01 emissions level is USA based, you can source USA manufactured components that are generally referred to an “50 States Legal” in the USA.

For example in NSW there is mandatory emissions testing.  The emissions testing is free of charge and you can go back as many times as you like.  NSW has two emissions testing facilities, one in Penrith and the other in Botany.

For example in VIC there is also mandatory emissions testing.  The emissions testing is performed by VIPAC for a fee.

The testing is performed using certified equipment and what is called the IM240 emissions test.  This IM240 test is a shortened and simplified version of the full emissions test that is performed for new vehicles.

Please note that all Australian engines from the late 1990’s complied with ADR 37/01 and all USA sourced engines from the mid 1980’s also complied.

Please note that further information on emissions is available in our build manuals, as well as from other published documents.

Can I obtain a copy of the build manual before kit purchase?2018-01-08T21:02:58+00:00

Yes, you can purchase a full colour printed copy of our build manual for $395 including delivery.  The cost of the manual is credited back when you place your kit order.

The cost charged for the manual covers printing and production costs as some of our build manuals are in excess of 1000 pages.

What size and format are your build/assembly manuals?2018-01-08T21:57:23+00:00

Our largest and most comprehensive build manual is that used for the Roadster models (PACE 427, FIA & Alumina).

It is full colour printed and coil bound into 4 x volumes with regular updates via an addendum for any changes or additions.

The current version of our roadster manual now totals over 1000 pages, 150,000+ words and close to 1000 figures/diagrams.  The manual also features a complete build procedure checklist which details every part that is fitted, where the part & hardware are located, any special fitment notes and at what stage/order each part needs to be installed.  A supplementary DVD is also supplied.

The PACE GT manual is supplied in the same format as our roadster version and is around 600 pages in size.

How complete are your kit offerings?2018-01-09T14:35:51+00:00

All of our kits contain not only the parts but also the required mounting brackets and fitment hardware for each supplied part.

Our kit offerings are comprehensive and by the time you purchase for example a PACE 427 Starter, Roller and Finishing Kit we are supplying over 1000 parts and 3000 pieces of hardware.

But we do not supply all of the components required for the build, some of the major items we don’t supply in our kits are in for example (PACE 427):

  • Engine and Associated Wiring & Accessories
  • Gearbox with Bellhousing, Clutch etc.
  • Differential
  • Exhaust System Parts
  • Trimming for Supplied Interior Components
  • Tyres
  • Some miscellaneous parts and items like fluids, adhesives etc.

For a comprehensive list of the parts we do supply please contact us to receive a copy of our packing lists we use for the Starter, Roller and Finishing Kits for your chosen vehicle type.

A summary of the parts that are required in addition to our kits is contained on the last page of the main brochure for each kit model.

We also offer an extensive list of options that help cater for additional parts and upgrades that you may require.

How long does it take to assemble the kit?2018-01-09T14:49:55+00:00

Depending on the time you have available but we have found that the typical builder with a concerted effort can complete our roadster kits in as little as 5 months part time.  The PACE GT is a slightly more complex vehicle and will require generally more time to complete.

Some builders are more than happy for their build project to span over a period of 12 months of more.

Do you require prior mechanical knowledge to assemble one of your kits?2018-01-09T22:29:28+00:00

We have had many successful customers build our kits with no prior mechanical knowledge or experience.

Our kits do come with extensive documentation and you do not need any fabrication skills to construct our kits.

Plus the build support of our business, our customer base and the wider Cobra community…there is plenty of help and encouragement out there.

For the inexperienced, it can be a daunting project to embark on, but the satisfaction and pride of building your own vehicle is something special.

Don’t kit cars have a poor reputation for performance and quality?2018-01-11T18:27:01+00:00

Some older/poorer quality kit cars have unfortunately lived up to the reputation of poor performance and quality with a mix and match of donor car components.

At Absolute Pace we believe we have redefined what is a kit car and as our slogan says we deliver true performance Supercars with exceptional design, quality and performance.

Our kits are designed to maximise performance, usability and comfort and have utilised the latest design and production methods centering around CAD based development, computer controlled manufacturing and high quality materials such as carbon, kevlar, aluminium, etc.

Our kit cars are not donor based as we you cannot produce a high performance vehicle by using a mix and match of production car components, but rather by bespoke engineering suspension, etc.

We have a proven track record of our kit cars dominating all forms of motorsport, concourse car shows and being loved as a street car.
